How to choose the right photographer for YOUR needs!

Filed under: Uncategorized — encoreportraits @ 8:59 am

Here is an interesting subject or better yet question, how do you choose the right photographer for YOUR needs!  Everyone has their own idea of what they like for photography; let’s face it photography is art and art is very subjective, therefore everyone’s eye for photography may vary.

So after doing some research and asking brides questions I thought I would share what I found out from brides on what they look for when choosing a photographer.

1.  Style (does the photographer offer the style you like?)
Most brides know the type of photography they like right away and once they see it, they just know it.  I truly believe that it’s so important to find a photographer whose style matches your own. Do you prefer your images to be more traditional with formal posing and backgrounds? Or do you prefer more candid/lifestyle shots where you are not posed but shot naturally as they are?

2.  Experience (Is this photographer new to the industry? Is this their full-time job?)
Since anyone can call themselves a photographer, it’s important to find someone who is experienced and really knows what they are doing. Are they a member of any particular organizations such as the PPA (Professional Photographers of America)? How long have they been in business?

3.  Quality (What do their images look like? How does their website look?  First impressions are EVERYTHING!!)
When you first look at the photographer’s website did you want to see more or is what you saw enough?  The majority of the brides said that if the first few images on the website did not get their attention then they moved on to the next photographer.  This just stresses how important that the first impression WOW’s the viewer!

It’s important to know what you will be getting from your photographer. Are they going to shoot you a bunch of images, plop them onto a CD and send you on your way? That might sound really nice, but not if the images you get back are blurry, over or under exposed, or unflattering images. Does your photographer know how to shoot in manual or automatic mode only? Are there any guarantees? Do they do any retouching or editing of the images after? Is there a second shooter?  What are the details of what they are getting.

4.  Personality (Does the photographer have a personality that the client can work with and most importantly enjoy working with?) Most of the brides I talked to expressed how important this was to them and I completely agree.  It is pointless to hire a photographer which you love their work but do not connect with.  I really believe that two elements need to be present when hiring the right photographer; 1.  you must like their work and style of photography 2. there has to be a connection.  If one of the elements is missing when it is all said and done you will be very dissatisfied.

5.  Referrals (Has anyone you known used their services before?) Most brides are asking friends, family or coworkers for referrals on photographers.  A majority of the brides said that they would prefer to use a photographer that someone they know has used in the past.  So as we all know it is always great not to burn bridges and provide the best work possible!

It was interesting getting feedback from brides on this subject and I hope you found it informative; we can never know too much!  I believe once you think you have mastered your profession and you have nothing more to learn it is time to move on; I have soo much more I want to know and learn; this journey is far from over for me!

There are soo many great photographers out there and I have been honored to work with many and befriend some along the way, which has made my job even more fun!  My philosophy in life is to treat others as you would want to be treated and life will most likely be good, not always, but you know you did your best!

Autumn and Ben.. Being in the moment.. Enjoying the moment… Engagement Memories…

Filed under: Uncategorized — encoreportraits @ 1:27 am

I met Ben and Autumn back in September and I just knew that if I was given the opportunity to work with them I would be truly blessed and believe me I have been so far!

Ben and Autumn are getting married at Arrowhead Golf Course in May of 2010 and I just love Arrowhead; it is one of my top three places to photograph a wedding!  Not only do I get to work with Ben and Autumn who are soo much fun to photograph but I get to work at Arrowhead again!

Ben and Autumn decided that they wanted to go to a park first for their engagement session and then I suggested we head over to Mt. Falcon Park; I had never been there before but when we got there, OH MY, how beautiful. Mt. Falcon Park overlooks a body of water and it also has the Red Rocks in the background, just soo amazing!!  We had a great time!  Thanks Ben and Autumn for being soo much fun to photograph!!!!

I thought it would be fun to put in their save-the-date information on the wine bottle!!!
